Saul was an eccentric artist who photographed and painted in the same neighborhoods in New York all his life. Because they were raving about him, I looked him up while I listened. Apr 8, 2014 - Saul Leiter lived in an apartment on a quiet street in New York's East Village, a neighborhood that evolved, during the six decades he lived there, nearly as much as Leiter himself. Born in 1923, he started taking photographs in black and white in the 1940s, and began experimenting with color towards the end of that decade.
